AK-xolotl was first released in 2023 and met with mixed reviews, but in light of the game’s latest 2.0 update, roguelite players can be delighted to learn AK-xolotl’s devs have brought a vast number of new features that have transformed gameplay completely.

Features Overview

Both the trailer for Ak-xolotl’s 2.0: Together, and the patch update were released on the 2nd of October, showcasing some improved features and new add-ons. One major Ak-xolotl update is of course co-op mode: although it is still in BETA, players can team up with friends to battle enemy hordes, share power-ups and excel through level platforms. Co-op is available to players on all platforms but requires a PlayStation Plus subscription for those on PS5 and PS4. The second major development in the game is an almost completely new system overhaul: some new systems players can expect to see in their next run are a new weapons cycle, build mode, progression statuses, and an improved menu. In addition to co-op play and the massive system overhaul, Ak-xolotl 2.0 has also introduced 20+ new weapons, 13 new enemies, 10 new room types and a New Boss.

2.0 Patch Review

Ak-xolotl, a PS4 game that came out earlier this year, wasn’t exactly a hit at first. People thought it was a bit empty, and the upgrades for attacking enemies didn’t do much. Plus, there weren’t enough cool items to make things interesting. But even with some bugs, it was still pretty smooth to play.

However, recent updates to the game have significantly improved its appeal. The weapons cycle has been refined, and new combat mechanics, such as the Smack Attack, have been introduced. While cooperative play remains exclusive to PlayStation Plus subscribers, the developers’ efforts to enhance the gameplay have been widely appreciated. As a result, Ak-xolotl has seen a resurgence in popularity, with many players returning to the game to experience the improvements.

The devs announced on the 3rd October on Steam that a second major update, Quality of Life Update #2, will be released in November to tackle bug fixes and item stats.
