The Royal Champion, unlocked at Town Hall 13, brings speed and precision to Clash of Clans. She can leap over walls, lock onto defenses, and swing the outcome of an attack when deployed at the right moment. Because of her lower hitpoints, she is often used late in battles to finish defenses or paired with Hog Riders and Miners to keep pressure on the base. Choosing the best Royal Champion equipment makes her even more versatile, giving her the survivability or damage boost she needs to turn close fights into wins.
In this guide, we’ll look at each option available to the Royal Champion, break down their strengths and weaknesses, and show how they fit into real strategies so you can decide which ones are worth upgrading.
The Royal Champion’s Hero Equipment
The Royal Champion currently has 5 Hero Equipment options available to her:
- Royal Gem
- Seeking Shield
- Hog Rider Puppet
- Haste Vial
- Rocket Spear
Royal Gem

When activated, the Royal Gem recovers a large amount of health for the Royal Champion. It also increases her overall hitpoints and damage per second when equipped.
It is one of two Equipment that the Royal Champion begins with, alongside the Seeking Shield.
At maxed level (18) the Royal Gem recovers a huge 2,400 health, increases the Royal Champion’s hitpoints by 380 and increases her damage per second by 105.
The Royal Gem is a simple piece of equipment but is effective in keeping the Royal Champion alive. The health recovery is so high, it’s almost like giving her a second life. To maximise its benefits, it is best used when the Royal Champion is low on health. However, if she’s facing a single-target Inferno Tower or Monolith, the additional health doesn’t greatly help and she can often still be taken out, especially if she’s distracted by other defences.
Overall, the Royal Gem is a safe bet and a solid Equipment. It increases the Royal Champion’s survivability, which is useful, but it offers little in terms of damage output.
Seeking Shield

When activated, the Royal Champion throws a shield which bounces between 4 defences, dealing damage. It also increases the Champion’s overall hit points.
It is the second Equipment the Royal Champion starts with, the other being the Royal Gem.
At maxed level (18) the Seeking Shield deals 2500 damage per hit and increases the Royal Champions hitpoints by 380.
The Seeking Shield is a decent Equipment that helps soften up or sometimes destroy defences. If no defences are left, it targets the closest building. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer nearly as much as the Royal Champion’s other equipment for base stats. However, it is valuable for cleaning up a base since it has an unlimited range and can travel to take out buildings in each corner if required. So, if you frequently run out of time, the Seeking Shield could be helpful to you.
Overall, the Seeking Shield isn’t the best Equipment for the Royal Champion, but that’s not to say it’s bad. It has its use cases which I’ll touch upon later.
Hog Rider Puppet

When activated, the Royal Champion turns invisible for 1 second, recovers some health, and summons a group of Hog Riders. Additionally, it increases the hitpoints of the Champion.
The Hog Rider Puppet is unlocked at Blacksmith level 7, requiring Town Hall 14.
At maxed level (18) the Hog Rider Puppet summons 9 level 13 Hog Riders, recovers 1000 health, and increases her hitpoints by 570.
The Hog Rider Puppet is one of the Royal Champion’s best Equipment, offering lots of survivability and extra damage. If you wish to use this Equipment, it is important to upgrade it as it upgrades the level of the Hog Riders, who themselves help to clear out defences while also acting as a tank for the Royal Champion. The 1 second of invisibility is also a great asset, allowing the Champion to redirect the targeting of single-target Inferno Towers and Monoliths to the summoned Hog Riders. The hitpoint boost and health recovery bonus also act as a mini Royal Gem, helping the Champion to survive longer.
Overall, the Hog Rider Puppet is a great all-around Equipment. It offers good health benefits and the Hog Riders help to clear out compartments and protect the Champion, particularly from single-target defences.
Haste Vial

When activated, the Haste Vial makes the Royal Champion move and attack faster for a short duration. It also increases her damage per second and attack speed.
The Haste Vial is available at Town Hall 15 when the Blacksmith is upgraded to level 8.
At max level (18) the Haste Vial increases the Champion’s speed by 38.3 and her attack speed by 100% for 12 seconds. In addition, it increases her damage per second by 88 and overall attack speed by 16%.
The Haste Vial is the best Equipment for increasing the damage output of the Royal Champion. Even when the ability isn’t active, the general damage and attack speed buffs significantly increase the damage of the Champion. However, the speed increase often means the Royal Champion runs ahead of troops that could tank for her, sometimes leading to a quick death, particularly since the equipment offers no hitpoint buffs.
Overall, the Haste Vial is a brilliant piece of equipment for the Royal Champion. It increases her damage output massively, which allows her to take out chunks of a base on her own, especially when paired with Equipment which increases her hitpoints.
Rocket Spear

When activated, the Royal Champion’s next few spear throws deal more damage and have a longer range. It also grants her additional damage per second and hitpoints.
The Rocket Spear is the newest hero equipment to be added to the game. It is epic equipment, so if you don’t have it already, you’ll need to purchase it from the Trader for 1500 gems in the future.
At maxed level (27) the Rocket Spear allows the Royal Champion to throw 8 spears up to 10 tiles, each with a 980 damage increase per shot. These spears also have a small area damage radius of 0.8 tiles. Additionally, it increases the Champion’s overall damage per second by 168 and her hit points by 700.
The Rocket Spear is an interesting Equipment which opens up unique strategies to the Royal Champion. Due to its 10-tile range, it allows her to snipe most defences from a distance. The only defences that she doesn’t outrange are X-Bows, Monoliths, Mortars, and an active Eagle Artillery. So, if you place her correctly and immediately activate her ability, she can take out a few defences without taking damage.
Overall, the Rocket Spear is a good Equipment, but one that requires a different use of the Royal Champion, much like the Fireball of the Grand Warden or the Giant Arrow of the Archer Queen.
Conclusion
For most players, the best Royal Champion equipment pairing is the Haste Vial and Hog Rider Puppet. Together, they strike a balance between heavy damage and survivability, letting her carve through defenses while staying on the field longer. The Royal Gem is a safer fallback if you want guaranteed healing, while the Seeking Shield and Rocket Spear can be paired for creative sniping strategies.
The important part is matching her equipment to your attack style. If you rely on her as a finisher, focus on gear that keeps her alive long enough to clear defenses. If you prefer to use her aggressively with hybrids, lean into equipment that boosts her speed and damage. The Royal Champion isn’t built to tank, but with the right setup she can still decide whether your attack ends in two stars or three.
