Over the past several years, gamers across the globe have been spoiled with announcements on developments, sequel confirmations and early access releases to beloved franchises and new games. So, we can expect 2025 will be packed to the brim with game releases across console and PC platforms. Here are some of the many anticipated releases of indie games releasing in 2025.
1. Hades II – Full Access
his list is Hades (2020) was an undoubting masterpiece developed by Supergiant Games, as attested by the large number of BAFTA and British Academy Games awards it managed to snag under its belt, so it begs the question if Hades II will be able to live up to its legacy. Players were able to enjoy early access in May, playing as the immortal protagonist MelinoÄ“ as she prepares for the battle against the Titan of Time. The early access drop was met with raving reception and even secured the sequel a Game Awards nomination for Most Anticipated Game. All things considered, it’s only right that Hades II is at the top of this list of indie games for 2025. Currently, there is no official release date for the full-access version, but based on the devs’ release history, fans could expect a potential drop between Q2 and Q3,
2. Slay the Spire 2
Slay the Spire 2 is next on our list, another highly anticipated sequel for PC players. The original game sold a whopping 1.5 million copies in the year of its release in 2019 and its fanbase has only grown since then. MegaCrit announced the game at the Triple-I Initiative Showcase in April this year. Fans can expect major developments to its visuals and moddability, in addition to new features and characters such as the Necrobinder. Early Access is confirmed for release in 2025, but the developers have yet to announce details on a Full Access version.
3. Little Nightmares III
Little Nightmares III is the latest project from Supermassive Games, the developers who brought us the iconic Until Dawn series. This game will be a standalone from the first two games and introduce two new protagonists, Low and Alone, who navigate the Nowhere. The announcement trailer was released in August 2023 and was originally scheduled for a 2024 release date, but devs announced a delay to 2025 earlier this year. Fans are wondering if Supermassive Games will be able to do Tarsier Studio’s duology justice in the horror genre, it’s safe to assume this beloved series is still in good hands.
4. Skate
4 years since Skate 4, now simply Skate, was announced, EA and Full Circle announced on the 17th of September that Early Access will be available to fans of the sports series next year. Players were given a drop of insight into the game during the Summer Game Fest which took place on the 7th of June and learned that the game will be free-to-play, and fans of the iconic franchise can sign up for playtests that will be available on PC via Origin. Devs are also looking to implement crossplay, which makes the wait all the more exciting. *
5. Dark Deity 2
Sword & Axe LLC have been on the grind to bring a fresh atmosphere to loyal fans of the original game, which was met with initial controversy due to patch issues that resulted in buggy gameplay. But in 2023, devs gave players a first look at its sequel, which was praised for the vast improvements made from the original, with dev Charles Moore taking to Reddit under the username u/DarkDeityCharles to explain how the studio worked from the ground up to build a game with a much smoother performance. Dark Deity 2 will be based in Verroa, a peaceful continent on the brink of war. No release date has been confirmed, but PC players can look forward to the release of this game next year on Steam.
6. Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight (2017) was revered for its addictive gameplay and exciting boss fights in addition to its combat system. The sequel was confirmed in February 2019 but was not publicly showcased until June 2022 at the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase. Nearly 8 years since the original game, players can brace themselves for a revamped return to the kingdom of the Hallownest on all compatible console and PC platforms.
7. Replaced
Sad Cat STUDIO Ltd’s latest project will The game will be focused on the protagonist R.E.A.C.H, an artificial intelligence forcibly trapped in a human body. The devs first revealed this sci-fi futuristic platform at Xbox’s E3 in 2022 and it was slated to drop in 2022, but delays have left its release up in the air. So, a 2025 release is speculative, but gameplay being revealed at this year’s Summer Game Fest in June makes next the best bet for its drop, and the gameplay insights have ensured fans that Replaced will indeed be worth the indefinite wait.
8. Menace
Menace is a tactical RPG developed by Overhype Studios for PC. In August 2023, an announcement was made for the game, and the gameplay trailer was released shortly after in November. Steam announced a release for Q4 of this year with the year drawing to a close, it could be in the cards players won’t receive this game until 2025.
9. Clair Obscure: Expedition 33
Developed by Sandfall Interactive, Expedition 33 is a dark fantasy role-playing game where players lead the members of Expedition 33 to destroy the Paintress. The game is incredibly visually appealing, set in a world which draws inspiration from Belle Èpoque, France. Gamers can sign up to Expedition 33’s mailing list to access exclusive pre-release content and rewards, and the game will be available across the latest generation console and PC platforms.
10. Project Haven
Project Haven was slated for a 2024 release but its devs, Code Three Fifty One, are yet to make any official announcements on when this game can be expected to hit stores. However, anticipating fans have not been left entirely in the dark as a trailer was released at the Dames 4 Games Showcase back in March, and previous looks were dropped in September and May 2023. This multiplayer squad survival game gives players the option to play as one of the four members of the Steel Dragons, a gang of mercenaries operating on the last city on Earth. With new content dropping this year, one could reasonably assume this game will arrive on PC within the next year.
