MLBB Season 40, officially named Decisive Moment, went live on March 11, 2026, and it brought a lot with it. A brand new hero joined the roster, the ranked ladder reset across all ranks, a new 4v4 mode is on the way, and a fresh batch of events and skins started rolling in alongside the season launch.

If you are trying to figure out where to start, this breakdown covers everything worth knowing about MLBB Season 40 Decisive Moment.

MLBB Season 40 Rank Reset: Where Do You Start

The moment Season 40 went live on March 11, all ranked progress from Season 39 wiped clean. Where you start this season depends entirely on where you finished the last one, so do not expect to pick up where you left off.

Here is the general demotion structure:

Season 39 Final RankSeason 40 Starting Rank
Mythical Glory / Mythical ImmortalLegend
MythicEpic
LegendMaster
EpicWarrior / Elite
Master and belowWarrior

This follows the same pattern Moonton uses every season. The ranked ladder reopened shortly after the maintenance window on March 11, so you can jump back in now.

New Hero: Marcel (Hero 132)

Marcel is easily the biggest addition to Season 40 Decisive Moment. He plays as a Support hero with a skills built around crowd control and zone disruption, and what makes him stand out is his companion Clemar, a split soul that acts as a living camera and works independently during fights. Marcel feels unlike any other support currently in the game, though that also means he takes a bit more time to figure out than most.

Role: Support

Specialty: Crowd Control / Support

Unlock Cost: 599 Diamonds or 32,000 BP

Marcel’s Full Skill Kit

Passive: Platinum Snap (CC)

Clemar does a lot of the heavy lifting in Marcel’s kit. He automatically photographs nearby enemy heroes, briefly freezing each one and dealing True Damage based on their max HP. Both Marcel and a nearby ally also pick up a shield equal to the damage dealt.

Marcel’s basic attacks cannot crit and do not benefit from bonus attack speed, so there is no point building around those stats. Any extra HP he gains converts into Hybrid Defense instead.

The more Marcel attacks a target, the faster Clemar’s cooldown drops. Staying aggressive in a fight actually makes the passive stronger.

Skill 1: Framed Moment (AOE)

Once Marcel activates this skill, Clemar focuses on the surrounding area and starts slowing nearby enemies by 20%. After holding the shot for 2.5 seconds, Clemar fires and deals Physical Damage to everyone caught in range while locking them in place for 1 second. It is a strong zoning tool that rewards players who can position Marcel in the middle of a fight.

Skill 2: Tracking Shot (Speed Up)

Tracking Shot turns Marcel into a surprisingly hard target to run from. Using it gives him a 15% movement speed boost for 3 seconds, and that number shoots up to 75% whenever he moves toward an enemy hero.

Using the skill a second time sends Marcel dashing forward while leaving a phantom at his original position. If Framed Moment is already active when he dashes, Clemar stays behind and keeps the shot charging rather than following him. That opens up plays where Marcel can reposition freely without canceling his crowd control.

Ultimate: Golden Hour (CC)

Golden Hour is where Marcel separates himself from every other support in the game. Marcel and Clemar combine for a wide-angle shot that covers a chosen area for 3 seconds. Every enemy unit inside freezes and becomes immune to everything except Marcel.

Any ranged attacks or projectiles flying into the area also stop mid-air and only land once the duration ends. Each enemy hero caught inside the zone resets Clemar’s passive cooldown too, letting Marcel chain his crowd control the moment the ultimate finishes.

How Marcel Fits Into the Meta

Marcel’s Golden Hour is already generating a lot of conversation, and for good reason. Freezing incoming projectiles mid-flight makes him a strong answer to poke-heavy compositions that rely on sustained ranged damage. His ultimate also works on jungle objectives like the Turtle and Lord, giving teams a way to contest or stall late-game calls that no other support can replicate. Moonton will likely take a closer look at that interaction in a future patch.

The numbers back up the hype. Marcel’s ban rate hit 41% within the first hours of his release on the original server. His Framed Moment and Platinum Snap passive give him reliable crowd control even outside his ultimate, and since the passive cooldown shortens the more he attacks, he stays relevant throughout a fight rather than only spiking around his ultimate window.

Marcel is not the easiest hero to pick up, though. He rewards players who read fights well and know when to commit. Expect his win rate to climb as more players put in the time to learn him properly.

New Mode Coming Soon: Frozen Sea Showdown (4v4)

Frozen Sea Showdown is a new 4v4 arena mode coming to Season 40 Decisive Moment. Built around hook mechanics and quick reflexes, it plays completely differently from standard 5v5 ranked. The mode has not gone live yet, but it is confirmed for the season window. Once it drops, we will update this page with everything you need to know.

What Changed Heading Into Season 40

Season 40 kicked off with a balance update that hit the mid lane mage pool harder than any other role. Moonton pushed to level the playing field across the role by trimming mages that had been sitting too high while giving weaker ones a nudge upward. The end result is a more open mid lane pool where more heroes are worth considering this season. If you have been avoiding certain mages because they felt underpowered before, now is a good time to revisit them.

For the full hero-by-hero breakdown of every change, we have a dedicated patch notes article covering it in detail.

Season 40 Events and Active Skins

ALLSTAR Event

The ALLSTAR Event returns this season with a Tidal Ruins theme. Along with exclusive limited skins, it also offers promotional Diamond rewards tied to completing event milestones. It is one of the bigger recurring events in MLBB, so keep tabs on your progress and make sure the window does not close before you finish.

Freya Starlight Skin: Starborn Resolve

This month’s Starlight skin goes to Freya with the Starborn Resolve skin. You can grab it through the March Starlight Pass.

Hilda Aries Zodiac Skin

The Hilda Aries Zodiac skin comes back on March 21, 2026 through the monthly Zodiac spin. Mark the date if Hilda is on your wishlist.

Fanny Legend Skin: Galactic Starhawk

The Fanny Galactic Starhawk Legend skin is still available, but the window closes on April 11, 2026. If you have been holding off, now is the time to move on it.

Key Deadlines This Month

A few events are wrapping up soon, so keep these dates somewhere you will actually see them:

  • Promo Carnival closes March 17
  • Mega Sale runs March 17 to 24
  • Eternal Seasons Token Giveaway and Draw both end March 26
  • Hilda Aries Zodiac skin returns March 21
  • Fanny Galactic Starhawk obtainability closes April 11

What to Focus on at the Start of MLBB Season 40

Play your strongest heroes early. The opening week of a new season usually has looser matchmaking while the ladder is still settling. Stick to heroes you know well and bank wins early before the competition tightens up.

Do not rush Marcel into ranked. He looks exciting, but new heroes always come with a learning curve. Spend some time in Classic or Brawl to get comfortable with his skills first. One poorly timed Golden Hour can cost your team a fight, so it is worth putting in the practice before bringing him into ranked.

Keep an eye out for Frozen Sea Showdown. The new 4v4 mode has not launched yet, but it is coming during this season. Watch the in-game announcements and give it a try once it goes live.

Stay on top of event deadlines. Several events are closing this month, some as early as March 17. Check the event tab regularly so nothing slips past you.

Pay attention to the mid lane. The balance changes heading into Season 40 reshuffled nearly every mage in the pool. The meta there is less settled than usual, which means there is real opportunity for anyone willing to experiment early.

Final Thoughts on MLBB Season 40 Decisive Moment

MLBB Season 40 Decisive Moment is off to a strong start. Marcel brings something genuinely new to the support role, and his impact on the meta is already showing in his ban rate. The mid lane shakeup adds another layer of uncertainty that makes this a great time to experiment. And with Frozen Sea Showdown still on the way, there is more to look forward to as the season plays out.

Keep an eye on those event deadlines and do not sleep on the ALLSTAR Event rewards. We will keep this page updated as Season 40 develops.
