Since the Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship launched in 2003, it has only ever landed in Japan, the United States, or Europe. That changes in 2027. Konami confirmed Singapore as the next host city, making it the first stop in Asia outside Japan and the first time the tournament has come to Southeast Asia at all.
Konami made the call at the closing ceremony of the 2026 championship in Tokyo, held August 28 to 30, and followed it with an official press release naming Singapore directly. The reveal leaned into the location hard, pairing the 2027 logo with a skyline shot built around Marina Bay Sands and the ArtScience Museum, the kind of visual choice that reads as Konami wanting the announcement to travel on its own.
What we know about Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2027
Konami hasn’t released dates, a venue, or how qualification and ticketing will work, saying only that those details come later. On format, the 2026 tournament in Tokyo ran four categories spanning the franchise’s physical and digital sides: the Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game, Master Duel, and the Speed Duel and Rush Duel formats inside Duel Links. Whether Singapore keeps all four is still an open question Konami hasn’t answered.
There’s a second event stacking the calendar too. A day before this announcement, The Pokemon Company confirmed Singapore will also host the Pokemon World Championships in 2027, running August 13 to 15 at Singapore Expo with the grand finals closing out at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Two franchise-defining tournaments choosing the same city in the same year is a coincidence worth sitting with on its own.
