Mobile Legends: Bang Bang wraps its 41st ranked season this month, and the changeover isn’t a routine one. September marks ten years since Moonton launched the game, and Season 42 ties directly into that milestone with anniversary-themed rewards, a full hero kit rework, and a redesigned Sanctum Island. Here’s the MLBB Season 42 release date, what’s free to claim, and everything else confirmed so far.

Key takeaways

  • The MLBB Season 42 release date is September 16, 2026 at 08:00 UTC, right after Season 41 ends.
  • The season is themed around MLBB’s 10th anniversary, with a free exclusive skin, the “Starward Decade” avatar border, and profile background effects.
  • Play at least 20 ranked matches and finish each one to claim the free skin. Wins aren’t required, but AFK-flagged or disconnected matches don’t count.
  • Masha gets the only real kit rework in this patch. Seven other heroes, including Brody, get visual updates only.
  • Sanctum Island gets a visual refresh with a redesigned Lord, and Battle Emotes move to a new six-slot Emote Wheel.

When does MLBB Season 42 start?

Season 42 begins September 16, 2026 at 08:00 UTC (4 PM PHT / 3 PM WIB), right after Season 41 ends. Expect a short maintenance window at the changeover, typically one to three hours, before Ranked mode reopens.

Free rewards: skin, avatar border, and profile effects

Unlike most seasonal turnovers, Season 42 comes with a theme attached: MLBB’s 10th anniversary. That means the usual seasonal rewards get an anniversary makeover. The free skin goes to Popol and Kupa, in a set called Flamehide Thane, with a second bluish-painted version of the same skin included. On top of the skin, the season also hands out a free avatar border called “Starward Decade” and profile background effects, all tied to the same anniversary theme.

How to claim the free Season 42 skin

Play at least 20 ranked matches during the season and finish each one. Wins aren’t required, losses still count, but matches where you disconnect or get tagged “AFK” don’t count toward the 20.

Hero revamps arriving with Season 42

The season change isn’t the only thing dropping September 16. Moonton’s own anniversary preview confirms the kit rework goes to Masha, not Brody as some early leaks suggested. She’s built around ripping into enemies for burst damage while restoring HP off that damage, and she gets stronger the longer a fight drags on.

The other seven heroes touched by this patch, Bruno, Clint, Brody, Kadita, Badang, Luo Yi, and Paquito, get visual updates only, no kit changes. Bruno also gets a control optimization on top of the new look. That’s the full set of eight heroes Moonton had been teasing, now confirmed straight from their anniversary preview.

Sanctum Island gets a visual refresh

The battlefield itself is part of the anniversary update too. Sanctum Island has a new look, with more environmental detail across the map and a redesigned Lord that includes new enhanced forms. Moonton is also introducing new Annual Map Changes, framed in the preview as “the Metacube has turned,” bringing new challenges and tactical opportunities to the map, though exact mechanics weren’t detailed beyond that.

A new six-slot Emote Wheel

Battle Emotes are getting a UI overhaul too. The new Emote Wheel unifies how emotes are equipped and expands the available slots to six, giving players more room to customize which emotes they bring into a match. Moonton says the change came largely from player feedback.
