The over the hill release date is October 14, when Funselektor and Strelka Games launch the game on Steam. The studio behind art of rally made the game for solo play or co-op with up to three friends. Versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 will follow in 2027.
Funselektor’s earlier games covered drifting, rally racing, and Formula 1 team management. After those games, the studio has pointed its minimalist art style at wilderness exploration. Players choose a vehicle inspired by classic four-by-four overlanders from the 1960s to the 1980s. They then drive through biomes based on real-world locations, including forests, lakesides, and mountains. Steam describes it as a driving game where players take their time, find their own route, and see where the road leads.

When a route gets difficult, players can lay planks across gaps. They can also deploy winches to recover vehicles and move through hard terrain. Bringing the right equipment helps with the challenges ahead, so each player can plan a route carefully or improvise as situations come up. Up to three friends can join the trail and work together to reach the destination.

Along the way, players can find remote cabins, scenic viewpoints, natural landmarks, meteorites that have fallen from the sky, and portals that lead to new areas. Dynamic weather and day and night cycles change the conditions of each journey. In addition, an in-game camera lets players photograph the animals they encounter to fill a wildlife compendium. The same camera can capture landscapes and sunsets. Players find upgrades and equipment throughout the world, and merchants and cabins offer colors, accessories, and cosmetics for customizing a vehicle.
The over the hill release date of October 14 applies to PC through Steam, and the console versions are planned for 2027. Funselektor and Strelka Games previously worked together on Golden Lap in 2024. Dune Casu founded Funselektor in 2014 with a game jam prototype that became Absolute Drift, which released in 2015, and art of rally followed in 2020.
